Score 92/100 · Drink 2023-2028, Eric Guido, Vinous, Sep 2023

The 2021 Il Frappato mixes dusty earth tones with dried violets, wild blueberries and wet stone to form its delicate yet enticing bouquet. It’s soft and soothing on the palate, with floral-laced wild berries and hints of citrus that slowly saturate. The 2021 tapers off long and lightly structured as sweet tannins resonate over a core of red licorice. This is an understated beauty, yet patience is recommended.

Showing lots of varietal character, the 2021 Il Frappato reveals dusty red stone, wild berry and a hint of sweet apricot. The wine is firm and tense, yet it also manages an absolutely weightless approach that makes it so easy and fun to drink. It embraces a contemporary style that would pair with the healthy foods we want to eat today, with lots of vegetables and white meats.
