Baked cherry and exquisite rosehip flavours giving floral notes but in a savoury, bitter herbal character. A bit of juniper on the finish. Still very much a dense, youthful style – the signature of Pommard, perhaps. Robust yet defined – and impressively perfumed. (RH)

The 2008 Pommard Rugiens captures many of the best qualities of the year. Layers of textured fruit emerge effortlessly from this mid-weight, gracious Burgundy. The wine reveals gorgeous depth and a long, multi-dimensional finish. De Montille used 2/3rds whole clusters for the Rugiens. Anticipated maturity: 2018-2028. Medium red. Closed but pure nose hints at redcurrant, minerals, iron, smoke, leather and cocoa. Surprisingly sweet but holding back plenty in reserve. Very spicy and aromatic in the mouth, with excellent detail to the fruit, leather and mineral flavors. Finishes with lovely breadth and rising length. This baby needs air, or time in the cellar.

Pale ruby. Light and juicy. Fresh and forward and with lots of fruit. Tannins hardly in evidence at all! All forward stuff with lots of pleasure and refreshment. Very delicately balanced and, oddly, much more forward than most Pommards in any vintage! (JR)
