Tasting notes
Moris Farms' 1998 Maremma (a blend of 75% Sangiovese, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 5% Syrah) was closed the day I saw it, revealing a dense, dark ruby color, and notes of Provencal herbs mixed with black cherries, earth, and oak. Although medium to full-bodied, with plenty of power, it was muted and not exhibiting nearly as much character, charm, or hedonistic appeal as its two less expensive siblings. Anticipated maturity: 2002-2014. Importer: Eric Solomon, European Cellars, New York, NY; tel. (212) 924-4949

Notably different from the '97, and perhaps even better balanced. Fresher in color. Strong fruit and more thoroughly integrated oak on the nose. Less perceptibly alcoholic on the palate; fresher and more focused, particularly on the long aftertaste.
