The 2018 Fougas "Maldoror" has a very ripe – maybe slightly overripe – nose with smudged summer fruits and touches of fig and raisin. The palate is quite muscular and dense, though it lacks complexity toward the finish and feels a little monochrome compared to its peers.

The 2018 Fougas Maldoror is missing a bit of freshness and delineation on the nose. The palate of this Côtes de Bourg is oaky on the entry, and the finish is very generic.

The 2018 Maldoror is inky, opulent and flamboyant in the glass, but also simple and not especially polished nor complex.

The deep garnet-purple colored 2018 Fougas Maldoror reveals notions of baked raspberries, blueberry pie and dried mulberries with hints of tapenade and balsamic. Full, rich and plushly textured, the ripe fruit has appealing sparks of freshness, and it finishes earthy.
