Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting in Beaune, the 2013 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Sentiers has an upfront, fruit-driven bouquet with pure raspberry, wild strawberry and dried rose petal aromas that unfurl in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, gentle at first but segueing into quite a structured and multi-layered finish with edgy redcurrant and crushed strawberry notes on the finish. This is excellent. Tasted September 2016.

(50% new oak; 80% vendange entier ): Deep, bright red. Reduced, wild aromas of black raspberry, licorice and game. In a large-scaled, sweet, rather powerful style, with plenty of salty extract to buffer its strong acidity. The wine's volume belies the fact that grape sugars at harvest were just below 12 degrees. Big tannins build with air. This will need time in the cellar to assume its adult shape.

(70% vendange entier ; 40% new oak): Good full red. High-toned aromas and flavors of dark fruits, lavender, licorice, Szechuan peppercorn and truffley underbrush. At once fine-grained and sharply delineated, with a saline complexity and the energy that comes from vinification with stems. Distinctly tighter than the Haut-Doix, finishing with firm tannins and lovely subtle lift. The vines here average 60 years of age, with some as old as 80, according to Nicolas Groffier. An outperformer in 2013.
