Tasting notes
Brilliant ruby. Intensely perfumed black raspberry, cherry, exotic spice and smoky mineral aromas are complemented by a hint of pungent flowers. Lively, palate-staining red and blue fruit preserve, baking spice and floral pastille flavors show excellent detail and mineral lift on the back half. Finishes on an emphatic floral note, with strong tenacity and polished tannins that lend gentle grip.

A smaller production cuvée, the 2020 Crozes-Hermitage Gaby was aged 12 months in demi-muids. It too is inky purple-hued and offers a youthful, primordial bouquet of black and blue fruits, new leather, camphor, and peppery spice. Wonderfully textured, medium to full-bodied, and balanced, it's another winner from this team that will benefit from 2-3 years of bottle age and keep for over a decade.
Cedar and wood spice accent blackberries and cherries on the nose of the 2020 Crozes Hermitage Cuvee Gaby. The wood contains the fruit, constricting the palate into a streamlined shape and limiting the wine's current appeal. The gamble is that this will behave like previous vintages and emerge from its current cocoon into something softer and more beautiful.
100% Syrah. Cask sample. Reserved nose with dark fruit and a mineral edge. Some depth to the palate with firm, grainy tannins giving length. Touch of oak but that should subside. (JL)
