The 2017 Corton-Rognet Grand Cru has a refined, perfumed bouquet, with scents of peony emerging with time. This is very pretty and winsome. The fresh palate is well balanced with fine tannin, perfectly judged acidity and a sophisticated finish that does this appellation proud. There is a wonderful, persistent saline aftertaste. Excellent.

In tank and will be bottled in February. A vineyard that has benefited from climate change. Around 40% new oak. Mid greyish crimson. Pure, dark and peppery on the nose. Fragrant in its dark fruit and just a little floral. Not exuberant yet and just a touch smoky. Super-fine tannins that are already supple. Dry finesse and all to play for. Really refined. (JH)
