Toasted cedar, undergrowth, grilled earth, roses, soft on the finish with fruit that is in its tertiary window, but succulent with oyster shell sapidity. Diam cork, 50% new oak for ageing; harvest October 2 to 11, meaning they hdld on through the challenging September, really pushing for as much maturity as they could get. The 2013 Marquis-de-Terme has a rather conservative nose that's like other Margaux 2013s. A bottle sample was tinged with greenness (though I noticed how a subsequent magnum, when given an hour decanting, manifested more fruit concentration). The palate is medium-bodied with a saline entry, a little bitterness on the back palate and a structured, bell pepper-tinged finish. What this lacks in depth it compensates with attractive harmony and I noticed less astringency than its Margaux peers. This is what you might call a "useful" 2013 Bordeaux that performs above expectations. Tasted May 2016.
Modern, sweet black fruit. Forward and mouthfilling and chock-full of flavour. Finely ground tannin giving lengthy chew on the finish. This combines geat fruit power with classic savoury structure. (RH)
Ripe, slightly baked black-fruit character. Plenty of fragrant oak on the palate, but enough floral character to signify the appellation too. Firm structure, but not overblown. This is quite oak-centric at present, but has pretty good potential. (RH)
About the producer
This Fourth Growth estate has been owned by the same family (the Sénéclauzes) since 1936. Over the last 25 years, later picking, a higher level of sorting and modern winemaking has fine-tuned the quality.
