The 2021 Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru has a light nose with red berry fruit and light tertiary scents. Initially, it suggests a shortfall in complexity and vigour, yet after ten minutes, it coheres nicely and gains bags of charm. The palate is well balanced with fine tannins. Crisp and sapid, this offers tightly coiled red fruit that conveys a sense of energy. Bright and tensile on the finish, this is a Clos de Vougeot that I end up admiring. The 2021 Clos Vougeot Grand Cru is showing some reduction on the nose, although there is appreciable open red cherry and crushed strawberry scents on the nose. The palate is medium-bodied with firm tannins, very well balanced, the new oak (25%) is neatly integrated. This builds in the mouth and delivers a welcome peppery note on the finish. Excellent.
One of the more structured wines in the range, even if it's far from forbidding, is the 2021 Clos Vougeot Grand Cru, a medium to full-bodied, fleshy and layered wine redolent of plums, raspberries, orange zest, vine smoke and toasty oak. It's framed by lively acids and powdery tannins that assert themselves on the finish.
