Certain vegetal character suggests stem inclusion here, and it adds real lift and interest. Firmly tannic and very savoury to finish, with aniseed hints lingering. (RH)

The 2016 Pommard Les Perrières has a high-toned, iodine-scented bouquet – more blue fruit here than black. The palate has juicy ripe tannin, supple and rounded, a little glossy in texture but with satisfying weight on the plush finish. It does not quite have complexity of Xavier's Premier Crus but it sure packs in a lot of fruit for a Village Cru.

Mid crimson. A little sour on the end but with masses of impact and ripe fruit up front. Perhaps not the subtlest wine but it certainly delivers. (JR)
