Score 88/100 · Drink 2017-2024, Monica Larner, Wine Advocate, May 2017

The 2012 Brunello di Montalcino presents a classic interpretation of Sangiovese without too many bells or whistles. This is a steady and clean effort with characteristic aromas of cassis, pressed berry, baking spice, cola and grilled herb. As the wine opens in the glass, it begins to produce more noticeable tones of oak-driven leather and smoke. This wine drinks well now, so there's no need to wait.

Tasted blind. Deep ruby with narrow, orange rim. Concentrated nose of dark cherry and hints of tobacco leaf. Juicy, sour-cherry fruit with lots of powdery tannins. Advanced evolution while still furnished with plenty of acidity and tannins on the finish, but will the fruit hold up? I would drink this now. (WS)
