Tasted for a second time in January 2022, the auctioned 2020 Riesling "EMT" (Versteigerung) combines plots and depth of the soils with ripeness of the Riesling fruit. The nose is spectacularly reductive (in a very positive way, at least for me), and the palate is ripe but also piquant in its vibrantly fresh acidity. This is an excellent but somewhat ostensible Riesling from the Heerkretz cru. In this tasting, I don't prefer it to the generic Heerkretz. (Sorry for those who auctioned the wine...) 13% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted in January 2022.

Nahe auction wine, 13 November 2021. Daniel Wagner vaguely reminds me of a British politician who used to self-flatteringly refer to himself as the quiet one, the difference being that the taciturn grower delivers profound results. His wines are never OTT. Restrained and complex, most of the time they feature a wonderful herbal expression. With the EMT he once again consolidates his reputation as the herb whisperer, making light of compact substance, combining a vibrant sappy expression with subtle spicy nuances and a sound phenolic backbone to lend structure and longevity.
