The 2018 Chambertin Grand Cru wafts from the glass with aromas of rose petals, raspberries, licorice, peonies, smoked meats and rich soil tones. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, layered and fleshy, with a muscular chassis of tannin, lively acids and a penetrating but youthfully chewy finish. Deep and concentrated, this is a serious, age-worthy wine from Duband.

Vines aged 50 years. 90% whole bunch, 40% new oak. Barrel sample. More open and generous than the Latricières – always like this says David Duband. Sweeter fruited too with lovely depth of scented fruit. More sweet spice as it opens up. Something a little like cinnamon. Plenty of tannins, lots of tannic tension, dry but not drying. All in embryo. All to play for. (JH)
