The 2016 Bourgogne Rouge sees no new oak. It has a simple cranberry and briary bouquet with a touch of iodine. The palate is built around brittle black fruit, simple and quite saline, although it does pull up short. Tasted at Raeburn Fine Wines tasting in London.

Dark crimson. Rather fresh, appealing and forest-floor-like. Rather rich – like a cherry-liqueur chocolate filling – on the palate. Seriously dramatic, to good effect. Luscious. GV (JR)
