La Morra. Just mid ruby with orange tinges. Balsamic nose with great lift. Aromatic cherry and raspberry coulis and with an undertow of nutmeg. Mouth-filling, layered sour-sweet cherry fruit with bags and bags of chewy tannins. Long, precise and deep but far from ready. (WS)

The 2017 Barolo Brunate shows the signatures of a warm, dry vintage in its slightly forward profile. Dried cherry, cedar, spice, tobacco and dried flowers are all nicely mellowed by the conditions of the year. There is good freshness, but I would not push my luck on aging. The 2017 is already pretty much ready to go.

La Morra. Tasted blind. Just mid rub with a bricky rim. Chalky cherry fruit with notes of herb liqueur. Hints of dried fruit and lots of acidity with a layer of powdery tannins. Seems to be ageing fast. (WS)
