The 2022 Le Marquis de Calon Ségur is a little more reductive on the nose, though there is plenty of fruit here and it is well defined. The palate is medium-bodied with a peppery opening. Fine tannins exert modest grip, tobacco notes appearing towards the finish with decent substance. Somehow, this feels predictable but not in a negative connotation of that word. The 2022 Le Marquis de Calon Ségur is driven by Merlot on the nose, with vivid red cherry and crushed strawberry scents soaring from the glass while maintaining delineation and freshness. The medium-bodied palate offers a bit of sucrosity on the entry, transitioning into a more structured and classically styled middle and finish, with hints of black truffle emerging towards the end. This is simply a delicious Marquis de Calon Ségur.

Wedding gift lists traditionally include wine glasses or cutlery, but in 1718, Nicolas-Alexandre de Ségur, the owner of Château Lafite and Château Latour and president of the Bordeaux parliament, received a rather more impressive present: Château Calon.
