The 2022 Sarget de Gruaud Larose has a nicely detailed nose: black fruit with loam and undergrowth, a touch of cigar smoke. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy black fruit, modest depth and a simple, sapid finish. There is just a bit of chewiness to contend with. Tasted blind at the Southwold tasting in London.

The 2022 Sarget de Gruaud Larose offers up aromas of black fruits, cherries and licorice mingled with hints of creosote and petals. Medium to full-bodied, rich and layered, with good depth and energy, it's a strong effort.
The 2022 Sarget de Gruaud Larose has quite a forward nose that's just a little more exotic than the Fiefs de Lagrange I tasted during the previous visit. It still has that very subtle mocha note seeping into the black cherry and blueberry fruit tones. The palate is medium-bodied with powdery tannins, decent weight and touches of clove and white pepper with a delineated, linear finish. This is a generous second label that should drink well for a decade.

Ch. Gruaud Larose is a Second Growth estate in Saint-Julien, Bordeaux. It is often considered one of the best-value Left Bank estates, with the wines occasionally matching those of the First Growths.
