Tasting notes
I love the exuberant richness of this wine. The 2011 Barolo San Lorenzo di Verduno is all about fruit. The bouquet reveals tones of black cherry, prune and plum. Those black fruit tones are evenly balanced out with spice, tar and licorice. The mouthfeel shows volume and depth.

A crystalline wine for the year, the 2011 Barolo San Lorenzo di Verduno is built on precision, nuance and delineation, all qualities that are rare for the vintage. Medium in body, but with superb persistence on the palate, the 2011 will appeal most to readers who appreciate tightly wound, focused Barolos. In some years, San Lorenzo is a bit more virile, but in 2011 the more feminine side of this site comes through. Rose petal, cinnamon and sweet red berries linger on the understated finish. With time in the glass, the 2011 puts on a little more weight, but readers should expect a restrained expression of San Lorenzo in this vintage.
Verduno. Mid ruby with orange rim. Ripe, perfumed, mouthfilling fruit. Lots of concentrations and quite powerful and with proper balance. It just needs age. (WS)
