Offering up notes of pear, honeycomb, white flowers and struck match, the 2019 Meursault 1er Cru Charmes (Domaine Louis Jadot) is medium to full-bodied, layered and fleshy, its ripe core of fruit girdled by lively acids, concluding with a saline finish. As readers may remember, this derives from vineyards acquired with Jadot's Prieur-Brunet purchase.
The 2019 Meursault Les Charmes 1er Cru was missing the degree of energy conveyed by the preceding Meursault Blagny, coming across a little static by comparison. The palate is rounded and honeyed on the entry, offering notes of dried honey, peach skin, nectarine and a dab of spice. What it needs is more tension to balance the richness; it just falls a bit short in that respect.
Cask sample. Nervy and lively with great appeal and a green-fruit juicy note that makes the wine much more refreshing than the Blagny. Really racy. (JR)
