The 2018 Echézeaux Les Treux Vieilles Vignes Grand Cru has an intense bouquet with dark cherry, blueberry and violet aromas, a little oaky at the moment but it is proportioned with the fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy red fruit, fine structured, grippy and "serious" for an Echézeaux (perhaps more like a Grands Echézeaux?) Wonderful sapidity on the finish, this is a great 2018. Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2018 red tasting.

The 2018 Echézeaux Les Treux Vieilles Vignes Grand Cru was matured in 80% new oak. It is tight on the nose at first and demands coaxing, eventually offering dark cherries, orange pith, forest floor (tree bark?) and light smoky aromas. The palate is quite vibrant on the entry, delivering effervescent red berry fruit laced with white pepper and sage, all very harmonious. Fans out nicely, exerting a gentle but insistent grip toward the finish. Great potential.

The 2018 Echézeaux Les Treux Vieilles Vignes Grand Cru is matured in 80% new oak (although as with all the other cuvées, I taste from a one-year-old barrel.) It has a well-defined bouquet of black cherries, boysenberry, crushed pebbles and incense aromas that flood from the glass. This is aromatically very intense. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy black fruit and firm grip that coats the mouth. A big Echézeaux with a lively, quite penetrating finish featuring copious black cherries and dark plum notes. Excellent.
