Score 95/100 · Drink 2024-2036, Rebecca Gibb MW, Vinous, Apr 2023

The 2021 Macushla is an expansive yet floaty-light mouthful of Pinot Noir. The coolest subregion in Central Otago, Gibbston, has produced a fully ripe expression with density of fruit while remaining ever-so light almost ghost-like in its footprint across the palate, that is, if ghost had feet. Considering its delightful generosity of red cherry as well as its herby twang, it's astonishing that it is just 13% alcohol. Beguiling and seductive, it leaves the mouth watering incessantly, as well as providing sinew. I only wish the label wasn't quite so Irish pub-like. But no-one's perfect.
