Score 91/100 · Drink 2020-2030, Jeb Dunnuck, Mar 2020
Also outstanding, the 2017 Santenay Les Hâtes 1er Cru comes from a larger, south-facing slope and was brought up in 45% new oak. Smoky red and black cherry fruits, charcoal, dried herbs, and forest floor notes all emerge from the glass and it’s medium-bodied, has a core of sweet fruit, ripe tannins, and a great finish. It’s drinking nicely today and certainly shows the exuberant, sexy style of the vintage, yet I suspect it’s going to evolve easily for a decade.
