Tasting notes
The 2015 Barolo Villero is quite reticent today. There is good energy in the glass, but not a lot of depth, even for this wine. Rose petal, cinnamon, sweet red cherry, spice and orange peel linger.

Compared to Giuseppe Mascarello's Barolo from Perno that is more accessible and primary, the 2015 Barolo Villero shows us a more austere, focused and disciplined side of the Nebbiolo grape. The bouquet is redolent of forest berry, tobacco, licorice and rusted iron ore. It shows delineated sharpness and focus that continues from the nose to the palate. Elegant tannins, more mineral nuances and nicely balanced acidity give Villero important cellar-worthy qualities. Wait at least 10 years after the harvest before opening this bottle.
