Tasting notes
Of the wines tasted this year from Giuseppe Mascarello, the 2013 Barolo Villero was the most difficult to read because it was the most shut down and closed during my tasting in April. All these wines need to get past the summer season before they start to sing their song. This is a beautifully polished and delicate wine that opens timidly to produce etched aromas of wild berry, rose and crushed mineral. The more time you spend with the wine, the more it yields and the more articulate and complex those aromas become. I started to see this within just ten minutes in front of the glass. This Barolo is compact and tight on the palate with lasting freshness that speaks so truly to the fresh qualities of this classic vintage.
