Tasting notes
Medium-bodied, soft, and roundly-textured, the red fruits are sweet, fresh, and forward, so you can enjoy this on release and for the next 10-12 years after release.

The 2022 Picque Caillou is intriguing, to say the least. It offers up an exciting mélange of dark red/purplish fruit, leather, spice, tobacco, menthol and dried rose petal. There is a bit of edginess in the tannin, but also quite a bit of depth. Élevage will be critical here, and yet the potential is evident.
I loved the 2022 Château Picque Caillou as well. Revealing a saturated plum/purple hue, it offers up a great nose of leafy herbs, ripe red and black fruits, and scorched earth. The oak is a little bit of a sore thumb, but this has good mid-palate depth as well as length.
Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2022 Picque Caillou Rouge zips out with notes of black raspberries, stewed red and black plums, and tobacco leaf, followed by hints of lavender and crushed rocks. The medium-bodied palate offers lightly chewy tannins and seamless freshness to match the soft-spoken black fruit flavors, finishing savory.
About the producer

Neighbouring Haut-Brion and Pape Clément, this estate has been turned around since Paulin Calvet took over in 2007. Working with the legendary late Denis Dubourdieu and Valérie Lavigne, results have been impressive.
