The 2021 Montepulciano d'Abruzzo Vecchie Vigne Casa Pepe is dark and intense. Wet stone and sage hints offset violets and crushed blackberries. It's soothingly round and supple with a wave of ripe blackberries and sour citrus that gives way to an herbal note toward the close. The 2021 finishes with a tinge of saline minerality and fine-grained tannins, tapering off long. A pleasant note of primary concentration makes perfect punctuation.

A cascade of roses and violets gives way to crushed blackberries and wet stones as the 2021 Montepulciano d’Abruzzo Vecchie Vigne Casa Pepe blossoms in the glass. This is luxuriously round and juicy upon entry, with masses of wild berry fruit carried across a core of brisk acidity. There's a bitter tinge along with gritty tannins that tug at the palate. The 2021 finishes with a tart concentration and is pleasantly chewy. This was just bottled and sure to flesh out beautifully over time.
