Score 95/100 · Drink 2025-2045, Jeb Dunnuck, Feb 2025

The 2022 Château Tour Maillet is a 100% Merlot cuvée that delivers darker fruits, graphite, and serious minerality on the nose. Gorgeously concentrated on the palate, it has fine, ripe tannins, a broad mid-palate, and a layered, round, and textured mouthfeel. A serious, structured wine that spent 16 months in 50% new oak barrels, it should evolve gracefully for 20+ years. Total production: 1,083 cases.

Dark inky colour, full intensity that you could mistake for a southern hemisphere bottle. Sandalwood and cedar on the opening, with edges of dried roses and clearly ripe fruit of black cherry, creme de cassis and fig. This is a big muscular wine, almost overwhelms but takes its foot off the pedal just in time. The tannins are confident but have personality and intent. One to watch over ageing. 50% new oak.
