Red plums, violets, cedary spice, and tons of floral notes emerge from the 2022 Château Tour De Mons, a medium-bodied, elegant, layered, incredibly seductive Margaux that shines for its complexity and elegance. A blend of 57% Merlot, 36% Cabernet Sauvignon, and the rest Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, brought up in 20% new barrels, it’s the finest vintage I’ve tasted from this château. Drink bottles over the coming two decades.

The 2022 La Tour de Mons has a pretty bouquet with blackberry, pressed violet and light cedar scents. It's nicely defined with neatly integrated oak here. The palate is medium-bodied with a sappy black fruit tone and fine tannins. It's fresh and lively with a brisk and quite sorbet-fresh finish. This is a delightful Margaux to drink over 12 to 15 years.

That is a brilliant Tour de Mons, really succulent, edges of violet and roses, loganberry and cranberry, creamy smoked caramel makes things just a little overly sweet, but this has juice and grip and skilful winemaking. One to look out for, great value. 58ha vineyard now owned by Nathalie Perrodo, Marjolaine de Coninck CEO and technical director. Single point upscore.

Softer shape to this than many wines in the appellation, a reflection of the clay limestone soils that make it pretty atypical for Margaux, and here the spices highlight nutmeg and cinnamon along with ripe damson fruits, fresh acidities that give a welcome kick of juice on the end, 60% new oak, harvest September 8 to 22, 100% handpicked since Nathalie Perrodo took over in 2020. Marjolaine de Coninck CEO and technical director. The blend given is planted, not as per final wine, as they allow for a slight evolution of the blend after ageing, so these are ones to check back in on when in bottle.
