Tasting notes
The 2022 Cantemerle has a glossy, generous bouquet, a mixture of blackberry and blueberry fruit, with touches of violet that lend it a Margaux-like allure. The palate is medium-bodied with a sweet core of fruit, quite plush and softish, blueberry and cassis fruit with a little smudge on the finish. Tasted blind at the Southwold tasting in London.

70% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc, 5% Petit Verdot. Lots of fruit but there's a bedrock of mineral, leather, soy and sweet spice too. Plenty of chew and well-balanced acid at this young stage, yet the lightness of touch gives a certain drinkability even now. Finishes with a vegetal, leaf-litter complexity. (RH)
The 2022 Cantemerle offers up attractive aromas of minty blackberries, blueberries and licorice, followed by a medium to full-bodied, broad and ample palate that's layered and textural, with a rich core of fruit largely concealing plenty of youthfully firm structuring tannin. A blend of 70% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot, 5% Petit Verdot and 5% Cabernet Franc, this is a strong effort for this estate, situated on fine gravel soils in the southern Médoc.
Powerful with depth, juice and precision, plenty of volume through the mid palate, and the tannins are velvety, laced with cocoa bean, sweet damson, cumin, balsamic, white pepper, rose petals, graphite, sandalwood, great quality. Laure Canu estate director, Eric Boissenot consultant, 40% new oak for ageing.
