FINE+RARE, Apr 2023

This is more elegant and refined than the La Mission Haut-Brion Blanc, a little more discreet, but it feels much more serious too. It’s more aristocratic, in a way. The aromas are beautiful and the flavour – as with La Mission – builds towards the finish, but in a more controlled, restrained way. It evolves beautifully with air, gaining even more complexity. Lovely. Blend: 51.4% Semillon, 48.6% Sauvignon Blanc

The 2022 Haut-Brion Blanc is quite bold and expressive on the nose: white flowers, lavender oil and light, waxy aromas. The palate is fresh on entry with an attractive texture, missing some acidity and tension, so I wonder if it might begin to pall by the second glass? Just a bit Rhône-like in style on the finish, which might be your bag. This is outclassed by several peers in this flight of '22 dry white Bordeaux. Tasted blind at the Southwold tasting in London.

More flamboyant and expressive than La Mission, the 2022 Haut-Brion Blanc reveals aromas of white fruits, spices, ripe orchard fruits and spring flowers. Full-bodied, seamless and fleshy, with bright acids and a pure, lively profile, it's long and elegant, concluding with a saline, penetrating and delicately mordant finish.

The 2022 Château Haut-Brion Blanc is one of the richer, more powerful wines from this château in some time. Sensational notes of ripe pineapple, honeyed white flowers, crushed stone, and even a hint of tangerine all shine here, and it's full-bodied on the palate, with a deep, layered, opulent style. Based on 51.4% Sémillon and 48.6% Sauvignon Blanc, the Grand Vin hit 14.5% alcohol and a pH of 3.38. It’s a brilliant wine to enjoy over the coming two decades.
