FINE+RARE, Apr 2023

This is exceptional from Duhart-Milon and competes with their hugely successful 2020. The estate believes it to be their best vintage to date and it’s hard to disagree. The cooler vineyards of Duhart-Milon love to be stressed and so this warm, dry vintage helped produce something rather special. It is majestic in stature – a distinctly Cabernet-driven Pauillac, with great structural verticality that makes the depth here impressive. The wine has very pure cassis fruit along with light smoky tones and a more earthy, savoury, mineral character. The Lafite-esque elegance of the tannins and mouth-watering freshness only add to its appeal. It is superb. Blend: 78% Cabernet Sauvignon, 22% Merlot

The 2022 Duhart-Milon has a little more vitality and tension than Clerc Milon, with edgy blackberry and bilberry fruit and a faint scent of the Gironde. The palate is medium-bodied with slightly rustic tannins. This just sags in the middle, which is disappointing after the promising aromatics, though it coheres on the short, off-dry finish. This feels as if it is closing down, so I will not rate this. Tasted blind at the Southwold tasting in London.

The 2022 Duhart-Milon is showing beautifully, bursting from the glass with aromas of mulberries, blackcurrants, pencil shavings and rose petal. Medium to full-bodied, velvety and textural, it's sweet and layered, with a gourmand core of fruit underpinned by powdery tannins and lively acids. A decade ago, Duhart could be a somewhat austere wine, but today it's much more integrated and harmonious. The 2022 is a blend of 78% Cabernet Sauvignon and 22% Merlot.

The 2022 Château Duhart-Milon is all finesse and elegance, offering cassis, black raspberry, spring flowers, spicy wood, and graphite. Medium to full-bodied, it’s incredibly pure, layered, and seamless, with utter class from start to finish. You can safely drink bottles anytime over the coming 30 years.
