Tasting notes
I love the enveloping stone-fruit and yellow-grapefruit aromas of this youthful GG, which are accompanied by a hint of smoky funk (reduction), resulting from the long sur-lie maturation. At once very juicy and every bit as elegant, this concentrated beauty is waving at you to join it. Such a long, silky finish that feels so airy. From organically grown grapes. Drink or hold.

The 2020 Hipping GG opens pretty ambitious on the densely aromatic nose, where fruit intensity and a reductive yeasty tone is triumphant. Supple and silky on the palate, this is a full-bodied, intense and enormously salty Riesling with a tight structure and still brittle finish. This is another 2020 Hipping that needs all our patience. Tasted in Wiesbaden at the end of August 2021.
Full bottle 1,455 g. Certified organic. From an amphitheatre of red slate, one parcel facing north, the other south, at 80–174 m elevation. Aged in 1,200-litre casks. RS 3 g/l, TA 7 g/l. Really tangy, citrus nose and spicy white-peach notes on the palate. Very tense on the palate with obvious potential for ageing. A really warm, rich undertow to this essentially refreshing wine. This is the sort of Riesling that could be happily matched to a meat dish, perhaps veal in a cream sauce – something quite Alsatian? Complete, beautifully balanced and already a pleasure to drink.
