The 2015 Meursault Charmes 1Er Cru offers a slightly more fruit forward, tropical, yet also fresh style. Citrus, mint, crushed rock, white flowers, and green citrus all emerge from this rounded, pure, elegantly textured Meursault. Surprisingly, I think the less expensive Meursault Blagny is a better wine.

(Matrot's vines are situated just under Perrières): Bright, light yellow. Tighter on the nose than the Blagny, offering subtle hints of orange, lemon, spices, minerals and butter. Enters the mouth a bit salty and severe but the middle palate is suave and refined, with its rich, glyceral fruit enlivened by harmonious orange-and-lemon acidity. Finishes tactile, saline, subtle and long, with emerging minerality contributing to an impression of juicy firmness. This is more complex than the Blagny: Matrot suggests pairing it with veal sweetbreads--in 20 years.

Organic. Intense citrus with only a light oak overlay of spice and lees richness. Deep and creamy on the palate, with that spice coming through on the finish. Persistent. (JH)

Bright light yellow. Ripe peach, white pepper and hints of vanilla and honey on the deep nose. Fat, ripe and sweet but nicely framed by well-buffered, harmonious acidity. In a distinctly solaire style, more about sucrosité than minerality. Slightly warm on the end. This almost tastes sweeter today than the Blagny, which is still fermenting the last of its sugar.
