Tasting notes
Good medium red. Expressive aromas of strawberry, spices, tobacco and underbrush. Supple, sweet and seamless but with modest real cut and thrust to its easygoing ripe red fruit, floral and spice flavors. Finishes with notes of chocolatey oak and herbs. Could use a bit more clarity and lift on the back end, but this makes for a tasty drink already.

The 2007 Brunello di Montalcino emerges from the glass with black cherries, plums, tobacco, spices and licorice. In 2007 the Brunello is especially dark and muscular for the vintage. The warmth of the year plus the estate's search to make a Brunello that is more approachable in both price and early appeal comes through in spades. The 2007 is a bit bombastic today, but it should settle down with another year or two in bottle.

Paolo Bianchini’s 2007 Brunelli are quite a bit better than the 2006s. One of the recent evolutions at Ciacci has been Bianchini’s desire to make an entry-level Brunello that is more affordable than his wines have been in the past, hence a greater separation in terms of quality and price between the straight Brunello and the Pianrosso. The Brunelli undergo alcoholic and malolactic fermentation in steel, and are aged in cask. Importer: Indigenous Selections, Fort Lauderdale FL; tel. (954) 530 4021
