Tasted not long before bottling. Dark crimson. A bit more reserved on the nose than the Volnay Premier Cru. Racy with energy and crunchy fruit but very youthful and reserved. And a little more occluded than the Volnay Premier Cru. (JR)

The 2015 Pommard 1er Cru Combes Dessus has a ripe blackberry, cola and spice-tinged bouquet that is actually quite Volnay in style thanks to its precocity. The palate is well balanced with succulent ripe tannin, plenty of black cherry and raspberry fruit, almost confit in style with fine balance towards the spicy finish that displays a touch of sinew. It should drink well over several years.

Dark ruby-red. Complex nose melds black cherry, licorice, violet, cocoa powder and spices, along with a faint leathery nuance. Very ripe but not at all roasted, conveying an impression of purity to its fruit-driven flavors of black cherry and blackberry. Lovely acidity draws out the long, positively tart finish. This wine smells like a Volnay, but that's hardly surprising as it's made by a producer in Volnay from vines in Les Combes Dessus, on Pommard's border with Volnay.
