2018 Le Boscq

Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2018 le Boscq reveals notes of warm cassis, ripe black plums and boysenberries with hints of charcoal, pencil lead, star anise and bouquet garni. The medium to full-bodied palate is chock-full of crunchy black fruits, framed by ripe, grainy tannins and impressive freshness and finishes with great length and lovely purity.

The 2018 Le Boscq seems to have lost some of its marine scents since I tasted it in barrel, now offering more red fruit with crushed iris and incense, plus peppermint in the background. The palate is medium-bodied with quite strict, dry tannins. I would have liked more flesh on the finish, which at the moment feels a little bony. Needs to show a little more joy.
