Tasting notes
The 2019 Meursault Charmes 1er Cru has an expressive, effervescent bouquet with lemon zest, orchard fruit, red apples, grilled hazelnut and light honeysuckle aromas. The palate is lightly spiced on the entry with orange rind and apricot. Quite saline in the mouth, the 2019 has impressive persistence on the finish. It is a slightly stricter, more linear Charmes than you might expect given the vintage, and as such it will deserve 3-5 years in the cellar.

The 2019 Meursault 1er Cru Charmes opens in the glass with aromas of pear, blanched almonds, white flowers and citrus zest. Medium to full-bodied, satiny and concentrated, it's deep and multidimensional, with serious structuring extract and a long, penetrating finish. This appears to be especially successful this year.
Picked 10 September. All from Charmes-Dessous. Vines planted 1942. Small plot with deep soils. Higher up so tends to get frosted, as it did in 2019. Tank sample. Some lift and freshness but very approachable with an overlay of savour. Some richness and I do taste the alcohol. And the acid is not quite integrated yet. (JR)
