The 2020 La Gurgue has a nose of black plum, light savory scents, touches of potpourri and a light minty aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy black fruit, quite peppery in style, hints of licorice towards the grippy finish.
The 2020 La Gurgue is sumptuous and racy in the glass. Inky dark fruit, grilled herbs, lavender and espresso infuse this deep, layered Margaux with tons of character. Low yields produced a La Gurgue of uncommon depth. A healthy dollop of Petit Verdot (the result of low yields in the Merlot and Cabernet) adds character.
High percentage of Petit Verdot in the blend and it gives a clear fingerprint to the wine, with tomato leaf, palma violets, raspberry, black pepper, rosemary spice and chalky tannins. Shows charm and Margaux typicity, a medium term drinker from owner Claire Villars-Lurton. 60% barrel ageing, 20% new, 40% cement eggs. Biodyvin and Demeter certified. 16hl/ha yield after difficult flowering, this is an upscore from En Primeur.
