Tasting notes
In the first instant this youthful white Burgundy has the combination of boldness and freshness that we associate with this vintage. As it aerates it gains a lot of subtlety, the aromas of orange blossoms and honeycomb expanding considerably. Quite some power on the medium-bodied palate, but it’s the incredible texture and seamless integration of oak though the elegant, flinty finish that wows me. From a 9.55-hectare walled monopole site. From organically grown grapes. Drink or hold.

The 2020 Nuits Saint-Georges Clos de la Maréchale 1er Cru Blanc, which had been bottled, has a dried honey and melted candle wax scented bouquet, plenty of extract here. The palate is primal and spicy, oddly not a million miles away from a mature Chenin Blanc with orange rind and mandarin on the finish. I would drink this over the next few years and not cellar too long.
The 2020 Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Clos de la Maréchale Blanc bursts with aromas of pear, orange zest, hazelnuts, dried white flowers and beeswax. Medium to full-bodied, layered and chalky, with lively acids and fine back-end grip, it shows considerable promise.
