Score 90-92/100 · Drink 2018-2030, Neal Martin, Wine Advocate, Dec 2015

The 2014 Chambolle Musigny 1Er Cru les Charmes was affected by the drosophila suzukii fly and had to be cut through times in the middle of August to get rid of acid rot. It has a lively redcurrant and raspberry preserve-scented bouquet. It is not the most complex Chambolle Charmes, but I appreciate the purity here. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, very harmonious with suggestions of sage and white pepper towards the finish. The oak is nicely integrated here and it feels very persistent; it just needs to spread its wings after bottling.

40% new oak. 35% whole bunch. Very fresh and fruity and indeed charming on the nose. Crackling balance and intensity. Quite forward. Not that intense but very nourishing wine! (JR)
