Tasting notes
The 2019 La Gravette de Certan has a blackcurrant and bilberry scented bouquet, red fruit emerging with time with a touch of damp earth. The palate is medium-bodied with some sharpness on the entry, more grip than the La Fleur de Gay, yet it is missing some length on the finish. Tasted blind at the Southwold annual tasting.

Tasted blind. Fresh and minty on the nose. Almost more New World than Bordeaux! No shortage of acidity. If someone told me this was Chile’s finest wine, I would not be surprised. Good, youthful wine. (JR)
The 2019 La Gravette De Certan is a solid second wine offering plenty of up-front richness and suppleness as well as classic Pomerol darker cherry and currant fruits, notes of damp earth, tobacco, and hints of flowers, beautiful balance, and enough ripe tannins to keep it drinking well for over a decade. I’d be thrilled with a bottle on the table.
The 2019 La Gravette de Certan is a fleshy, charming wine, bursting with aromas of cherries, minty blackberries and licorice. Medium to full-bodied, ample and giving, it's sensual and succulent, with an enveloping core of fruit, supple tannins and lively acids. It's entirely composed of Merlot this year and largely derived from vines planted in 2010, supplemented by a plot planted in 1998.
About the producer

The original Château at Vieux Château Certan dates back to around 1770 but the modern history of the estate begins in 1924 - the year that Belgian wine merchant Georges Thienpont purchased the property.
