Tasting notes
Saturated violet color. Smoke- and mineral-accented cherry and blackberry scents, along with exotic spice, violet and cracked pepper flourishes. Supple and expansive on the palate, offering appealingly sweet dark berry, kirsch and floral pastille flavors that are brightened by a spicy overtone. The spicy note carries through a long, smoky finish that shows fine clarity and smooth, well-knit tannins.

Lots of spiced black cherries, sandalwood, pepper, and gamey, meaty, iron notions emerge from the 2019 Côte Rôtie Rose Pourpre. Medium to full-bodied, it has a dense, concentrated style, ripe tannins, and outstanding length. It will benefit from 2-4 years of bottle age and keep for over a decade.
100% Syrah, 100% destemmed. Aged for 18 months in barrel (100% new oak). Barrel sample. Tasted blind. Lots of smokiness here, firm and showing some graphite flinty notes on the nose. A firm and tightly coiled palate with excellent freshness and florality – lots going on and a wine that has so much to offer over the coming years. (AC)
