2019 Vougeot Clos de la Perriere Monopole

Full bottle 1,680 g. Monopole vineyard.  NHB. These Bertagna bottles are  brutes ! Smells of North American red mulberries, grilled maraschino cherries, blackcurrant leaf and that just-burnt note of strawberry jam sticking to the rim of the pot it's been cooked in. High-impact tannins – a chewy, stemmy mouthful that barricades the fruit away behind a tumble of barbed wire. It's heady, rich, ripe fruit, but oddly squashed-tasting, as if it had been bruised by the oak. The flavour well-brewed tea. Not enough freshness, especially on the finish. (TC)
