Score 87/100 · Drink 2001-2007, Robert Parker, Feb 2001

An herbaceous effort made in the late nineties, the light-styled 1996 Cote Rotie Blonde et Brune exhibits a bouquet of black olives and saddle leather, medium body, soft tannin, and good spice. Production is approximately 18,000 cases. I would opt for drinking this wine over the next 5-6 years. Importer: Fred Ek, Ex Cellars Wine Agencies, Solvang, CA; tel. (805) 686-9153

Full red-ruby. Aromatic nose of cherry, raspberry, smoked game and pepper. Suppler palate feel than the Hermitage, with lovely harmonious acidity framing the raspberry flavor. More pliant and perhaps longer than the Hermitage, relying more on its acidity than its tannins for structure. A distinctly northern, Burgundian style of Cote-Rotie, in the style of the vintage.
