Score 91/100 · Drink 2001-2013, Robert Parker, Jun 2001
Luigi Pira's 1997 Barolo is a decadent, luxuriously rich effort offering an opulent texture, and gorgeous jammy currant, cherry, licorice, smoke, and cured olive characteristics. It possesses a superb texture, a sexy, forward, low acid style, and copious quantities of glycerin, fruit, and extract. It is a terrific wine to drink now and over the next 10-12 years.
