Tasting notes
The 2017 Pernand-Vergelesses Les Vergelesses 1er Cru actually comes from the Bas-Vergelesse, a lieu-dit on iron-rich clay. It offers attractive cranberry, strawberry and pottery wheel aromas that unfold in the glass. The medium-bodied palate is quite steely and correct, displaying grippy tannin, well-judged acidity and a tang of spice toward the finish that cuts away a little abruptly. As such, I would afford it two or three years in bottle before broaching.

Notions of sweet red berries, plums, spices and citrus rind introduce the 2017 Pernand-Vergelesses 1er Cru Les Vergelesses, a medium-bodied wine with a pretty core of crunchy fruit that was hard to read when I tasted it, with some dissolved carbon dioxide drying out the back end. I'm confident that it will be considerably more charming in bottle.
