A very classy wine, the 2019 Chianti Classico is 83% Sangiovese with the rest of the blend going to Canaiolo and other complementary varieties. This pretty entry-level red shows great silkiness and a nuanced bouquet with wild berry, crushed stone, licorice and wildflower. It ages in large oak casks for 12 months to help integrate those flavors. With an abundant 160,000 bottles made, this is a highly recommended value buy.

The 2019 Chianti Classico is a delicate, gracious wine that reflects both the mid-weight style of the year and the wines of this part of the appellation. Crushed flowers, sweet red berry fruit, herbs, mint and spice are all woven together. As always, the Isole Chianti Classico is a model of finesse and understatement.

San Donato in Poggio. 82% Sangiovese, 18% 'other varieties'. Lustrous mid ruby. A little savoury/reductive and not that forthcoming and polished as I would have expected, but I am sure this just needs more time in the bottle. A generous mouthful of sweet fruit with firm, grainy tannins gripping the finish. The reductive note clings on, though. (WS)

I tasted the 2019 Chianti Classico from a pre-bottling core blend. Supple and racy, the 2019 hints at the greater textural richness and suave tannins found in the Cepparello. Spice, mint, dried cherry and herbs add pretty shades of nuance.
