Red-ruby; moderately saturated in the context of this set of 2014s. The nose offers a very ripe blackberry liqueur quality but comes across as less expressive than the Volnays at this address. Quite imploded on the palate, with its firm minerality contributing to an impression of medicinal reserve. The wine's brisk acidity and lightly herbal character suggest an element of inconsistent ripeness but the tannins are essentially supple and the finish is chewy and persistent.

Full, saturated medium ruby. Slight musky reduction to the superripe aromas of blackberry, licorice, white and black pepper and bitter chocolate; this reminded me of a young Château Pavie(!). Plush, round and seamless, with very ripe black raspberry and dark chocolate flavors framed by harmonious acidity. This concentrated, tactile, lightly saline wine finishes with chewy tannins and excellent length.

The 2014 Chambolle Musigny les Charmes 1er Cru has one of the most exotic bouquets from La Pousse d'Or: macerated red cherries, orange peel and dried fig, nicely defined and just a little heady! The palate is succulent on the entry with supple, fine tannin. Here, there is a mixture of red and black fruit, whereas other cuvées lean towards the latter. It feels more harmonious in the mouth, perhaps more approachable with a persuasive, silky texture on the finish. This is very well crafted.
