(just bottled; 50% vendange entier ): Bright, moderately saturated red. Reticent, lightly medicinal aromas of black cherry, licorice and minerals. Then surprisingly broad in the mouth, but still with a medicinal cast to its flavors of black and red cherry, spices and herbs. This reminded me of a softer, more easily accessible Clos-Vougeot.

The 2014 Vougeot 1er Cru le Clos de Prieuré (bottled in July) has an elegant, mineral-tinged bouquet, the 70% whole cluster fruit lending details and freshness. The palate is sweet and ripe on the entry with fine tannins; it is pretty, with pure red cherry and strawberry fruit with a Vosne-like silkiness on the finish. This is well worth seeking out.
About the producer
Based south of Nuits-Saint-Georges in Prémeaux-Prissey, Domaine de la Vougeraie was created in 1999, grouping all of Jean-Claude Boisset’s holdings under one name. The property has a total 40 hectares of vines, with extensive holdings in Vougeot as well as plots in six Grands Crus.
