Score 89/100 · Drink 2018-2023, Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, Mar 2018

(this was the Lécheneaut brothers' first vinification of this wine, from vines planted in 1973 and 1974 that they had just purchased from the Château de Bligny): Medium, slightly dull red with some amber at the edge. Balsamic aromas of prune, brown spices and leather turned a bit darker and fresher with air but remained somewhat generic, like mature Côte de Nuits Burgundy. A bit simple and warm but with its inviting decadent sweetness countered by a bit more acidity than I would have expected from the nose. Still, this premier cru doesn't quite come alive. Finishes with dusty tannins. This is beyond the fruit stage but Philippe Lécheneaut noted that Pruliers always has an earthy side.

Score 91-93/100 · Drink 2004-2012, Pierre Rovani, Jun 2001

Produced from a 0.5 hectare parcel of 25-year-old vines the Lecheneaut brothers purchased from the Chateau de Bligny, the 1999 Nuits-St.-Georges Les Pruliers is a medium to dark ruby-colored wine with fresh, sweet cherry, and black fruit aromas. This dense, broad, and profound wine is medium to full-bodied and silky-textured. Loads of candied red and black fruits are found in this lush, opulent, and exceptionally long-finishing beauty. Anticipated maturity: 2004-2012. Importer: Robert Kacher Selections, Washington, DC; tel. (202) 832-9083.
